History Meets Flavour
Our olive groves are located in Contrada Guardabasso, Sciacca, an area steeped in history. Historical research and archaeological excavations reveal rural settlements dating back to the 6th century BC, through the Arab and Norman periods. Remarkably, the remains of a significant Roman villa have been discovered near one of our very own olive groves.
This rich history speaks volumes about the favourable microclimate and fertile soil that have characterized this region for centuries. The soil here is predominantly clay/silt with an excellent balance of essential minerals like nitrogen, phosphorus, and potassium – perfect for cultivating olives.
The unique terroir of Sciacca contributes significantly to the character of Nectare. The slightly alkaline pH of the soil imparts distinct qualities to our olives, resulting in an extra virgin olive oil with exceptional flavour and aroma.
Sciacca, nestled between the historical wonders of Selinunte and Agrigento, is a place of extraordinary natural beauty. Its fertile soil and unique microclimate create the ideal conditions for cultivating exceptional olives, rich in flavour and nutrients.
