Why nectare. The origins of our brand
As anthropologist Marino Niola reminds us, oil is a substance that connects. Not only is oil essential for blending the ingredients of a dish (even a “simple” salad), but historically, it also brings together being and well-being, environment and development, man and land.
The Latin verb necto encompasses the concepts of connecting, binding, intertwining, knotting, and joining. This is where we drew inspiration when naming our oil. We wanted a name that expressed not only the concept of connection in general but also the idea of a bond with our land.
Necto shares the same root as nectar, the drink of the Greek gods, said to grant immortality. By extension, “nectar” and its synonym “ambrosia” have come to designate any exquisite beverage in the Italian language. Just like our oil.
